This page explains what data the Pop Code Android app (package name com.tivie.popcode) uses and why. The app is made by Tivie, an independent developer, who can be reached at tivie.compte@gmail.com.

In short

Data used to play online

Your account is kept until you delete it. Game information, along with your nickname, player ID and IP address, is recorded in the server's technical logs. They are only used to fix bugs, detect cheating and protect the server. Only the game's publisher reads them, and they are erased automatically after 30 days.

Signing in with Google (optional)

If you choose "Sign in with Google", Google confirms who you are to the server with a signed token. We only keep your Google account ID (a number that never changes), to find your account on another phone and for ranked games. We do not keep your email address, your name or your picture, and we cannot access anything else in your Google account. Signing in is covered by Google's privacy policy.

Signing in with an email address (optional)

If you choose "Continuer avec une adresse mail" (Continue with an email address), the server sends a 6-digit code to the address you type. The email is sent from the developer's Gmail inbox, so your address goes through Gmail, Google's service, for the sending. Until you type the code, the server keeps your address with a fingerprint of the code (never the code itself), its time and the number of tries: all of this is erased as soon as the code is used, and after one day at the latest. Against abuse, the server also counts, in memory only and for one hour, the codes requested for each address and each IP address. Its logs only record the domain of the address (for example gmail.com), never the whole address.

Once you have typed the code, your address is kept with your account, to find your account on another phone. It is never shown to other players: only you can see it, in "Gérer le compte" (Manage account). It is used for nothing else: no newsletter, no ads. It is deleted with your account.

Leaderboard

If you play ranked games, your nickname, score and number of ranked games appear on the leaderboard, which every player can see.

Daily challenge

If you play the daily challenge, the server keeps, for each day played, the start and end time, the questions asked and the guesses, the time taken, the score and whether the code was found. These results are used to resume a challenge you started and to count your streak of successful days. They are deleted with your account.

With a signed-in account (Google or email address), your nickname, your challenge scores (today's and the month's total) and your number of challenges this month appear on the challenge leaderboard, which signed-in players can see. Your friends also see whether you have finished today's challenge, with your score, and your streak of successful days.

Friends

With a signed-in account (Google or email address), you can add friends. The server keeps your friends list and the friend requests you sent and received (with their date), to enforce the limits against repeated requests. A player who searches for your nickname sees your nickname and ranked score; your friends also see when your game last connected, and whether you are online right now (game open on screen) or in a game. For this, the open game sends a small signal to the server every minute; this presence is only kept in memory, never stored. If you invite a friend to your game, they receive your nickname and the names of the players already there; the invitation is not stored either. Removing a friend or deleting your account takes you off their list.

Messages sent from the game

If you use "Signaler un bug" (Report a bug) or "Nous écrire" (Write to us), or, in an older version of the game, "Signaler un problème" (Report a problem) or "Écrire au développeur" (Write to the developer), the server receives your message, its type (problem, question or idea), your nickname and player ID, the game version, your phone model, the Android version and the date. With "Signaler un bug", you can attach up to three screenshots, picked from your phone's gallery: the game only sees the pictures you pick, and it shrinks them and removes their hidden information (location, device, date taken) before sending them. This information is only used to answer you and fix problems. It is kept on the server (at most the 2,000 most recent messages; the oldest screenshots may be erased sooner, to make room) and a copy, screenshots included, is emailed to the developer's Gmail inbox. Nothing is sent until you tap "Envoyer" (Send).

Reporting or blocking a player

If you report a player, the server keeps your nickname and player ID, the reported player's ID and their nickname at that time, the reason you chose, the words you added (optional, at most 200 characters), the game when the report comes from a game, the game version and the date. A copy is emailed to the developer's Gmail inbox. The reported player is not told, and does not know who reported them. Reports are only used to enforce the code of conduct. They are kept for one year at most, even if one of the two accounts is deleted in the meantime, then erased automatically. To prevent abuse, you can report the same player only once a day, and a single IP address cannot send more than 5 reports an hour.

If you block a player, the server keeps the list of players you blocked, with the date of each block. It is only shown to you, in "Gérer le compte" (Manage account), and the blocked player is not told. If they were your friend, they are removed from your friends. A block is erased when you unblock that player, or with your account or theirs.

The server refuses offensive nicknames, and names that imitate the game's team, when someone picks them. If a nickname breaks the code of conduct, the developer can reset it ("Joueur" followed by 4 digits): the old nickname stays recorded in the server's logs, which are erased after 30 days. The account of a player who breaks the rules can also be closed: it is signed out, and it disappears from the leaderboard, the search and friends lists, like a deleted account. A closed account is not erased: it is kept as long as it stays closed, so that it cannot be created again by signing in with the same Google account or the same email address. Data kept on your phone

The app keeps your sign-in token, the server address and your settings on your phone so it doesn't ask for them again. They are deleted when you uninstall the app.

Where the data is

The game server is located in France. Traffic between the app and the server is encrypted (secure wss:// connection).

Children

The app does not ask for any personal information to play (the email address is optional) and does not try to collect any from children.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you can ask to access or delete your data by writing to tivie.compte@gmail.com.

Deleting your account: in the app, tap your name at the top of the home screen to open "Mon profil" (My profile), tap "Gérer le compte" (Manage account), then hold "Maintiens pour supprimer mon compte" (Hold to delete my account). Your account disappears right away (you are signed out and removed from the ranking). Your nickname, statistics, score and Google link or email address are kept for 30 more days, then permanently erased from the server: during those 30 days, you can cancel the deletion by signing in again (with Google or the same email address). Only an account closed for breaking the code of conduct is not erased (see Reporting or blocking a player). A deleted guest account cannot be recovered. In other players' history, only the nickname you had stays shown for the games played against them. You can also ask for deletion by email, at the same address.

Changes

If the app changes, this page will be updated and the date above will change.
